I decided to write this to asses different real street fight situations and see what one can learn from them and what to avoid.
I will start first with this one. This is a street fight that breaks in the street, not sure why, but the guy that gets attacked has some boxing experience and is able to fend off multiple attackers. The key to his actions is keeping his guard up, keep moving back in a sort of circular motion to lure opponents in and strike them down at the right time. You can also see that the attackers are dedicated to the attack which makes it more challenging for the defender, however, makes it easier to stop their momentum since they are moving forward against his punch:
From this clip we learn the importance of hand skills in a real street fight. With one good punch you can end everything!
This other clip shows some street losers randomly punching a girl walking with her man. Not a smart move since also this guy shows some boxing experience. The opponents in this clip are not as dedicated to the attack, still the defender's technique was clean and intimidating:
In this next one I believe a Chinese man also fends off some attackers with punches. It doesn't look like boxing punches but most likely something with a Kung Fu/Sanda background. Notice he also uses his positioning by moving to not get overtaken by the attackers. His arms are also put in the position when he is not punching to act as a barrier to make sure he has the distance he needs. And he uses a twisting motion when he feels someone has a grab on him:
The following clip is of a security guard escorting a robber or a trouble maker outside a store. When the man refuses to continue moving the security guard displays a great over hip throw (aka uchi mata in judo) to subdue the opponent. This move is great because in real life there is a chance of hitting the opponent hard on the hard floor which can wind him or simply knock him out. However, it is important to remember to use this move ONLY if you know the opponent has no back up. You always want to avoid being on the ground in a real street fight:
This next clip shows us why we do not want to be on the ground in a street fight. This guy tries to bring down a robber, however, the robber's friend was around and started attacking the man on the floor. Hence the "bad guys" were able to flee the seen:
This next clip shows the practical use of a spinning back kick. Most people think this move is better used to the abdomen or face. This is possible in a street fight, but in my opinion not the best way. The best way to use a spinning back kick is to the lower abdomen or groin. And most of the time after a spinning back kick the best attack afterward would be a spinning back fist, if the dude is still up, or a clinch and a knee, if the dude is ducking. In this situation the kicker was lucky the his kick made the other man loose balance and slip which set him up for a soccer kick. And to sweeten the deal tossed aside the other man when he tried to tackle him:
This next one has some luck factor. This guy stops a running robber which what looks like a hybrid between a spinning hook kick and a scorpion kick (almost like a ballet move). Although unorthodox it still was effective:
SO to sum up. Hand techniques are very useful in a real street fight, just remember to keep your hands up (closed or open palm). However, what is more important is positioning, distance and timing; without them your techniques will be useless. Trapping techniques are also very important as well as grappling and takedown defense. Avoid going to the floor at all costs, you never know who of your attacker's friends are around. If you are going to use kicks, make sure you use them effectively because you do give up your balance when you lift your feet off the floor.
